About Us

Community Literacy Centers, Inc. (CLC) was established in 1987 as a non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to teaching adults to read. The founding members of CLC recognized the correlation between illiteracy and many of the social problems in our community; crime, poverty, health issues, and ignorance. Since its inception, CLC has helped more than 38,000 individuals. CLC also provides professional development for our teachers and tutor training for volunteers.

CLC is a place where adults learn to read in a safe, welcoming environment. For many adults, CLC provides a second chance at life and opens new doors of opportunity.

Our vision is to change lives by increasing awareness of the benefits of a more literate community and providing a welcoming environment where every adult who wants to read has an opportunity to learn.
